2016 Reunion Report

One of our most fun and successful reunions was just completed at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage, CA.  The weather could not have been better. Mid 60’s in the mornings grew to mid 80”s during the afternoon and the sun was shining brightly every day. The food was fantastic with attendees were able to chose their plated dinner from a variety of salads, soups, entrees and desserts each evening. Breakfast was included in our rate and was leisurely enjoyed each morning by the retirees.

Shopping was a favorite of many while the golfers enjoyed the course at Rancho Mirage Country Club.  One of our unnamed members(know as Michael) reported he won $960 at the local casino. No report was given on losses, but Evelyn said there  was enough left over to pay for their trip!

Golf was fun and enjoyed by many of our group.  Some of our winners  are shown below. More photos will be open the website. Mondays skins game was won by Charlie Clark with two skins, and closest to the pin was Sid Row and Darryl Shields. On Tuesday our traditional Texaco Tournament was a very tight match with First Place going to Dave Mayhew, Lester Wilkes, Jay Maxwell and Bob Dahl. Second place went to Darryl Shields, Bill Mathe, Jim Conard, and Ken Marrs.  Third place to Tom Edwards, Jean Mills, Hal Mills and Roni Edwards.  Less than 3.5 points separated   first from last, so the competition was very close.  In a surprise to everyone including himself, Pierce Treadwell won the longest drive contest on one of the par fives. Closest to the pin was won by Dave Mayhew and Tom Edwards .

The Hospitality event was held outdoors each evening in a covered pavilion and was just as perfect as the weather was and seemed to be enjoyed by all. Pictures below are of all the group at our last evening hospitality gathering .  During the Hospitality Event we had drawings for door prizes. Anne Treadwell and Beverly Mathe each won a 50 minute Spa treatment which they thoroughly enjoyed. Al and Patsy Derden won one free night which pleased them greatly. We might mention that in 21 years this is the first time that the Derdens' or the Treadwells' had ever won a prize.

After our last dinner, Al Derden led a discussion of where we had met over the years and thanked all the folks that had been involved in hosting our reunions for 21 years!

On a somewhat sad note it was announced at our last evening dinner that this was probably the last reunion of this type that we will be having. The uncertainty of our group to make commitments to attend will prevent us from having a great rate at a resort which requires a signed contract with minimums that must be met to avoid penalties.  We just barely cleared our minimums this year as 10 couples had to cancel out in the last month before the reunion. We may still have  smaller, regional type get togethers that do not require a contract  and will keep everyone involved if one of those are planned.

If you attended, you know how much fun was had by all. If you did not, we missed you and hope we get to see you soon at another event.
